Prostitution

Prostitution has known to be the oldest profession in the world. A lot of resources defines this as 'act or practice of engaging in sexual intercourse for monetary gain' which I believe isn't always true as one article says, 'prostitute cannot simply be a woman who sells her body, since 'that is done every day by women who became wives in order to gain a home and a livelihood'. Therefore, the most applicable definition would be, ‘prostitution is the act of rendering a non-reproductive sex for payment.
One can turn to this for different reasons: money, security or just as simple as having brought about by their environment. I understand that some of them are in it for the money, but for the majority of them I believe it is a way of life that is a direct consequence of the emotionally and physically abusive way they were raised.

Ultimately, though, the main reason why prostitution is rampant is because sex has always been regarded as a highest form of pleasure for humans and thus explains people crave for it, if there’s no one to buy this kind of transaction, there'll be no prostitution at all. Like any other types of transaction for pleasure purposes (eg. Purchasing gadgets, clothes…), sex will remain an entity that is out in the market if people continue to view it as something that can be bought and not sacred. It is so unfortunate and sorrowful to know that sex is increasingly becoming something more of a merchandise than that of what it was really made for, as shown by the rise of the prostitution and pornographic industries everywhere; an act of bestial nature that violates the sanctity of the ultimate physical intimacy between fellow beings.

Prostitutes are people in bad situations, getting themselves in worse conditions. It is unbelievably heartbreaking that this people are so devoid of options that they have to turn to selling their precious bodies. I do not look down on them, or look at them as lesser people. They can do what they have to do to survive. If they do it for the right reasons, supporting children, family then that is their decision. Being in this kind of business puts one into ultimate humiliation, but people who decides to take this turn should be left alone. If someone reasons that prostitution, at this time in their life is a way for them to survive or even thrive, who are we to judge? We cannot enforce our opinion and beliefs onto society as a whole. If one is trying to make a living out of something that is not good for him or her, then be it. We need to respect whatever reasons they may have.
